BETH SHALOM SYNAGOGUE
ARK DOOR
Elkins Park, PA (1953-1959)
This design is an adaptation of the ornamental design Wright created for the “Ark Door” within the house of worship. The ethereal Beth Shalom Synagogue was commissioned by Rabbi Mortimer Cohen and he responded to the design by writing the architect: “You have taken the supreme moment of Jewish history-the revelation of God to Israel… and you have translated that moment with all it signifies in a design of beauty and reverence”
